Smoothie bowls are great for those of us who have a thing about “eating your food not drinking it”.

I don’t mind smoothies for breakfast BUT in saying that I do make sure I have a sit-down breakfast as often as possible.

Reason being is that when you eat in a calm state, your body can digest your food a lot easier because…

A) It has more time to produce the stomach acid and digestive enzymes needed to break down your food, and

B) You are at a lower risk of food particles escaping through your gut lining which can then set off an inflammatory response (a leaky gut is commonly brought on by stress) – ever noticed when you eat when stressed you get a sore tummy??

Don’t get me wrong, smoothies on the go are still a fantastic option for a lot of us, BUT if you can find an extra 10 minutes in the morning to sit down and eat your breakfast slowly and mindfully – PLEASE DO.

This is a simple recipe packed full of nutrients to last you through the morning without getting hungry. (Because no one likes being hungry at 10am!).

Just mix up the fats based on your taste buds and what you have in your pantry.

*TIP: Some people need more fats for breakfast to keep full than others. Just experiment a little. Your breakfast should last you at least 3-4hours.

Serves 1

Carbohydrates

  • ½ Cup Berries
  • ½ Frozen banana

  • 1 tbsp Nut butter (peanut or almond)
  • 2 tbsp Shredded coconut
  • 2 tbsp Coconut yoghurt/Full fat Greek yoghurt

Method

  1. Add berries, banana, ice, 1/2 a lemon, 1/4 cup water, and protein powder to the blender and blitz until it turns into a sorbet.
  2. Add extra water as needed to get your preferred consistency.
  3. Poor smoothie into a bowl and add 1-3 fat toppings.

Enjoy!
